Welcome to the Shakespeare
The "Shakes" in the centre of the city has been the only English
pub in Hannover for over ten years. A pleasant atmosphere is very important
for us , and we never miss an opportunity to celebrate , so we can´t
catch up with putting up and down the decorations (that´s why we
leave it up most of the time).Amongst others we also celebrate the 17th
of March which is St. Patrick´s Day and Halloween on the 31st
of October , even if they are not typically English ... who cares ! New
Year is always an experience in the Shakespeare because we celebrate
it twice , at twelve o´clock German time and one hour later at one
o´clock ( twelve o´clock british time).
Food and Drinks
We sell a wide variety of beers from the tap, as there are Veltins, Kilkenny,
John Smith´s Bitter, Beamish, Newcastle Brownale and, of course,
Guinness. And loads of bottled beer, you
can get Becks, Fosters and Heineken. Or how about a nice
draught Strongbow-Cider?
Along with that you might enjoy a bag of Walker´s crisps , and
if you´re really hungry , our kitchen offers traditional
pub food. And quite affordable too!
Good News for Students!
Students should be more than happy to visit us. They get their first
pint for half the price. That means for example , a pint of Guinness for
1.70 Euro.
Of course, a valid student card is required for that, in that case
we are rockhard!
Any Other Special Offers
But non-students (also) have reason to cheer up in the "Shakes" because
of our many special offers.At the moment we´re selling 0,2
cl Glen Grant for 1,60 Euro.
That´s not too dear , is it ? Apart from that , our regular stock
of Whiskies is really not bad at all. We sell almost 100 different
sorts of Whisky , among them also Bourbon and Irish Whiskey but mostly
pure Single Malts.A marvelleous sight for everybody who knows a bit about Whisky.
Fun and Games
But one doesn´t have to pop in for a drink ! We play bingo in
the "Shakes" every Friday night, with many more or less exciting prizes
to win; besides : to take part at bingo doesn´t cost you a
"cent". Every second Monday we have an open dart-tournament, and for
a fee of 2,50 Euro you can take part and take home a few prizes , only
if you´re a good darter ! But be careful - some of the "Shakespeare-Dartists"
play some excellent darts ! But don´t try looking for electronic-
darts , you won´t find them.
All members of the "Shakespeare-Dartists" prefer the traditional way.
Feeling comfortable ? Why don´t you stay to watch the football-match
on TV with some of the other people ? There are two television-sets available
in the "Shakes" , and in general we show every match that´s on ,
as long as it´s during the regular opening hours (please phone up).
So why don´t you come around for a pint and have a lift back home
with an original English cab, just like good old England?
